A delegation of Members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly paid a condolence visit to the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Hon. Justice, Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye on Thursday 15th February, 2024 at the High Court Complex, Yenagoa. Hon. Justice, Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye lost her brother, Mr. Jonathan Oye in a fatal accident.
Hon. Daniel Charles, Ph.D of Brass Constituency 1 prayed for God’s strength to the Chief Judge and eternal rest for the deceased’s soul. The Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary and Justice, Hon. Oteigbanyo George Braah expressed shock on receiving the news of the death of Mr. Jonathan Oye and offered the Assembly’s support through this period until interment. The Bayelsa State House of Assembly delegation also presented drinks according to Ijaw tradition.
The Chief Judge accepted the drinks, welcomed the delegation and narrated the cause of the accident. The deceased went out to buy petrol on Friday, on his way home, an SUV ran into the tricycle (keke) he was in and he died on the spot. The delegation praised the cordial relationship between the Judiciary and the Government and also commended the Chief Judge on the successful swearing-in of the Bayelsa State Governor and his Deputy.

The Chief Judge presented souvenirs to the House of Assembly delegation as a token of her appreciation.
