The Nigeria Bar Association Yenagoa Branch on the 17th July 2023, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Hon. Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye, in his Chambers at the High Court Complex, under the leadership of Somina Johnbull, Esq.
The NBA in appreciation of the successful inauguration of His Lordship as the Substantive Chief Judge of Bayelsa State Judiciary, made presentation to the Chief Judge, by the most Senior lawyer, Fedude Zimugha, Esq.
The visit was centered on congratulating the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State for His Lordship’s support of the NBA, show of interest in the affairs of the NBA and also, they were grateful to the opinion of the Chief Judge for Courts relocation to its area of Jurisdiction. They stated the willingness and readiness of the Bar to support the Judiciary.
Furthermore, they introduced the newly elected executives of the NBA to the Chief Judge of the State. The NBA through the Chairman, Somina Johnbull made an appeal to the Chief Judge to be part of Judiciary programmes and for My Lord to set up effective pro-bono schemes for defendants and the cooperation of the Bar and Bench.
The Chief Judge in her response, congratulates the Chairman and the excos for their support, as His Lordship applaud the NBA for their cooperation during their election and the choice of nomination made for the various positions and the harmony in working together.
My Lord The Chief Judge, promised to partner with the Bar and to join hands with the Governor through the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to establish Court of Appeal in Bayelsa State. Finally, My Lord, promised to host the NBA Bar Forum.
